Five Senses of Preparing for the School Athletic Year

Chad Griffin
Coach Nelson had to have additional volunteer workouts to accommodate ten more players arriving after May- so the volleyballs bouncing were at a premium. Softballs are coming off the bats faster now that the season is within reach, and with camp in the rear view mirror, the Lady Cavs have the look to challenge for the region title. You will be able to hear the loud cheers resounding from Layton Gym this coming week as the varsity cheerleaders get camp going. Go, Calvary, Go!

2. The SMELL of freshly cut grass daily from MC Anderson Field, thanks to Coach Carswell. He took the bulk of mowing duties all summer in preparation for the June 25th mandatory five-day conditioning or acclimation period for football. The Jenkins Boys Club is the best it’s ever looked, thanks to Mr. Zipperer. The mower has been working overtime.

3. Soon there will be the SIGHT of Coach Martin and cross country gliding across the Calvary campus as they prepare for their annual meet at the Fleet Feet Kick Off Classic right down the street at Daffin Park.

4. Our student athletes have enjoyed the refueling TASTE of chocolate milk after workouts, thanks to the local dairy farmers of south Georgia for the donation of the cooler.

5. TOUCH, well, besides the heavy feel of the south Georgia humidity, it will be the first time the student-athletes pull on that Calvary uniform and realize that they play for something greater than themselves. They will be playing for their teammates to the left and right of them. They will be playing and cheering and hitting and spiking and running and fielding for not their glory, but for the glory of the Lord who has given them all the gifts that they will showcase in the coming months. No matter what the scoreboard says, we will always look to win the day, for Christ is King, and we are granted the opportunity to play a game with talents that come from the greatest coach, player and teammate the world has ever known. Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice for us. That is what it means to be #1! TBTG
