The Storm

Chad Griffin
“Be still and know that I am God” is the first part of Psalm 46:10. We all go through storms and what seems like controlled chaos in our lives: rescheduling games, injuries, moved practice locations, or even a busted pipe on the Football Field. The frustrations can get a bit tiring. When we remind ourselves that we are not in control and in the rare occasions that we think we are, the “Be Still” part is the most helpful. Just to stop for a minute; seek time to know God. With the demands that we all put on ourselves and the demands that our student-athletes face, it is imperative to realize that time spent with God is the most compelling. It creates a balance and allows us the stability to keep our oars in the water and keep paddling. The second part of the verse is: “I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted among the earth.” We have to remember that what we do, we do for God’s glory, not our own. We can easily get caught up in what the world tells us is important, like rankings, stats, or accolades. What we can do is to stay humble, have a servant's heart, and love each other and our teammates. These are the things that will show God is a part of our lives and that we are anchored in his love.
