Teaching Appreciation

Marianne Chase

Our teachers work tirelessly to make sure that their students are cared for, listened to, motivated and inspired. Calvary’s teachers get to take it a bit further, by openly supporting these children spiritually as well. As we wrap up Teacher Appreciation Week, we need to consider that one week cannot possibly hold all of the gratitude we have for our teachers. This lifelong service demands determination, courage, and endurance.

It is so important that we let our children know how to be grateful for those around them each day. They watch and listen to us, the adults. So, even though that bagel breakfast is so yummy, the positive words and interactions that happen each day between teachers and parents, school leaders and community members mean so much more. We need to develop systems so that our children can appreciate each other and those that support them. It can be very simple. A quick note or a few positive words go a long way. We all need to model this to our children, so we can watch them teach their stuffed animals, younger siblings, and ultimately each other what it is to truly be appreciative and have a thankful heart.

The saying is true: “The smallest things you do aren’t small at all.” A heartfelt “thank you” to all those teachers that are changing lives and to the parents and communities that are helping to teach their children to appreciate the people around them each and every day.
