BJU Computer Engineering Workshop

Recently, the club members participated in a hands-on Computer Engineering Workshop led by a team from Bob Jones University. During the workshop, students wrote an app that controlled the colors emitted by an Edison bulb. This type of lighting is popular in many newer car models, where the driver can control the ambient light inside the vehicle. The task involved building an electrical circuit using an Arduino board and writing computer code to control the board through user input. Students not only learned the computer engineering skills necessary to program the Arduino board, but they also had the opportunity to put into practice valuable life skills like problem solving, effective communication, and teamwork.

The Engineering Club will finish the year by applying mechanical engineering principles to the task of designing and building a battery-powered go kart. Students are working with an undergraduate advisor from Georgia Southern and several industry advisors in developing the go kart. The team will compete in four challenges: a speed race, an obstacle course, an incline challenge, and a tug-of-war against other schools in Southeast Georgia on April 28 at Georgia Southern’s Savannah Campus.
