We are a community of learners and leaders where teaching and learning are stimulating, interesting, and Christ-centered. Students, staff, and parents are supportive of one another and work cooperatively to reach ever higher academic, social, emotional, and spiritual competencies. Differences are accepted and respected by students, staff, and parents. We follow many pathways to learning while sharing goals that unite us, a common core of knowledge, and a belief in biblical truths.
It is our desire to learn more about you and your family and how we may best serve your child. We seek to develop each student: academically, athletically, socially and most of all, spiritually. In turn, we are seeking students who want to integrate and fully invest in the school with their time and talent to obtain the most out of their experience here at Calvary Day School.
Our key verse at Calvary Day School is Luke 2:52, which states: “So Jesus grew both in height and in wisdom, and he was loved by God and by all who knew him.” For the Administration and educators of Calvary, this verse is a presentation of the guiding force behind everything we do. This verse encompasses the four components of a truly Christian philosophy of education: physical growth, intellectual growth, spiritual growth, and social/interpersonal growth.
At Calvary Day School, we are called to a higher mission. We infuse faith into our classrooms, clubs, gymnasiums, playing fields, etc.; in essence, into whatever is being done or taught. At Calvary we also pursue excellence in whatever we do. As a result of this internal pursuit of excellence, Calvary was recognized as the first charter member of the National Elementary Honor Society, and our students are accepted each year into some of the finest colleges and universities in the United States, with over half of these students typically receiving academic scholarships.
Since Calvary Day School opened its doors in 1961, it has been blessed with enormous support from those who seek to further the school’s mission of providing an academically challenging education in a uniquely Christian environment. Exceptional teachers, state-of-the-art facilities, and superior athletic venues are all possible because of the generous support of the Calvary family.
The bear, aptly named the “Can-Do Bear” in honor of both our teacher and the empowering Bible verse Philippians 4:13, served a purpose beyond cuddles and comfort. From those early childhood years, the bear was a reminder of what we could accomplish as individuals and as an entire Calvary family through God’s guidance. In the classroom, our kindergarten class became Mrs. Cannady’s Can-Do Bears, a group of students who were constantly reminded of our capabilities due to the love of Christ shared by our teachers, staff, and administration.
That sense of pride in faith, in family, and in our future defines the Calvary Day School community.
Calvary is a place where students can learn lessons beyond the standard curriculum. They can watch as history teachers use desks to demonstrate the grueling difficulties of trench warfare. They can study Shakespeare by marching down the halls in Elizabethan-style musical parades. They can discuss their scientific discoveries outside of the classroom, sharing their science fair projects with students across the entire southeast region. They can enjoy learning because of the loving teachers and staff surrounding them. I know they can because I, along with my fellow Can-Do Bears and Class of 2017 seniors, have.
As a senior who has now turned the purple and gold tassel, I still feel that same love and confidence in my abilities. Thanks to my Can-Do Bear background and Calvary Day School family, I have always felt the courage to be bold and be brave. And I have watched classmates and peers accomplish wonderful feats of success due to their belief in their abilities. Our student-athletes have battled career-threatening injuries only to recover with back-to-back state championships. Our aspiring writers and photographers have been recognized by countless publication organizations as some of the nation's greatest young journalists. Our actors and actresses have performed in countless shows and competitions, from the stage in our choir room to the literary state competition stage.
I have watched our school family face triumph and face trials. From overcoming sickness to seeking safety in the midst of natural disaster, our Calvary family has used these moments to grow. We have coped with failure and celebrated in success - all because we know we can through our sense of community and our reliance on God.
That’s the beauty of the Calvary family and of the Class of 2017. Together, we have worked, we have achieved, and we have celebrated. We have been blessed to do so much- all because we know what we Can-Do through Him.
