Kimberly Bland Stuckey - Class of 1997
Written By: Gordon Hunter
Love and kindness are two qualities that Calvary Day School strives to incorporate into academics. To do this, Calvary’s teachers strive to include traits which make Calvary feel like a home and a close-knit family. Seventeen current staff members/teachers graduated from Calvary and have returned to impact our students. One of those is kindergarten teacher Mrs. Kimberly Bland Stuckey, or Mrs. Stuckey as she is known in the classroom.
Mrs. Stuckey graduated from Armstrong with a BA in Liberal Arts and a minor in Education, and a BS in Communication Science and Speech Disorders. She went on to complete her Masters of Art in Teaching. Mrs. Stuckey began teaching at Guyton Elementary School in 2006. Kim taught there for ten years, where she gained experience in pre-K, kindergarten, and 1st grade. After a wonderful experience teaching in Guyton, she decided to come home to Calvary Day School for the 2017-2018 school year.
Kim attended Calvary beginning in 1981 as a two-year-old in the Early Learning Center through graduation in 1997. During high school she was involved in working at Calvary’s afterschool program and Calvary’s Summer Academy. This is where she found her love for kids. However, in order to pay for her college at Armstrong State University, she worked at various places: Dyches Construction; Jeffrey Rubnitz, Attorney; and finally with Charles D. Gatch. All of these places of employment gave her experience she would later use when dealing with children and their parents.
Kim has been married to Chris Stuckey for almost eight years. She and Chris have a son, Parker, who is following in his mother’s footsteps as a Cavalier. He is in Kindergarten at Calvary.
When I asked Kim about why her parents chose to enroll her in Calvary, she said, “My parents wanted me to be raised in a loving, Christian environment that would mimic our home environment.” They also wanted the best for both Kim and her brother Scott’s education. Kim stated, “My parents wanted to make sure we received the proper education that would help mold and shape us into responsible well-rounded adults. These are the same reasons my husband and I wanted to place our son at Calvary.”
During Kim’s years at Calvary as a student, what influenced her the most was the atmosphere...“always feeling at home and knowing that all of my needs were taken care of throughout the day,” Mrs. Stukey recalled. “I was safe, nurtured, and loved.” Some of her favorite memories of her time as a student were the chicken and rice lunch and creating lifelong friendships with classmates.
Kim loved her Calvary family so much that she came back and is now in her second year teaching at Calvary. We are blessed to have her on staff! Mrs. Stuckey knows what it means to be a Cavalier, and we are glad she is choosing to passionately impact the young minds on our campus. Kim left me with this advice for current Calvary students: “The time passes quickly; cherish every moment you have and always stay true to yourself.”
