Winter Sports

Chad Griffin
As we head into Winter sports at Calvary, we continue to have to figure out how to manage Covid. With Basketball, Wrestling, Competition Cheer, and Swim underway, they all look a little different than the years past. When you walk into Tippett Gym for a Basketball game, you will notice the bench staggered and spread out on each side. You will see coaches, players, and fans masked and appropriately distanced. Our Competition cheer team is competing in winter for the first time ever due to their season being pushed back. Our swim coaches have had to get creative on how they practice and prepare for meets due to limited pool training, including more dryland practices and staggering different groups of swimmers at the aquatic center. Wrestling has gone to great lengths in sanitization and partner training to ensure player safety.

Even through all of the precautions, plans, and changes, the coaches and players have the same attitude, they are thankful they still get to participate in the sport they love. We are grateful for a successful and safe fall season. The boys Cross Country team captured their 1st Region Championship in school history. Also, both the girls and boys teams qualified for the State Championships in Carrollton, GA. The Volleyball team had a great season and made it to the Elite 8 in the GHSA state tournament. Softball had great senior leadership pour into the younger girls and ended the season on a high note. Girls Varsity Flag football’s inaugural season has been very successful. They finished first in their Area and are competing on Saturday in the GHSA Elite 8 at home. Varsity football continues to march far into the postseason, traveling to Sharpsburg, GA for a Final Four matchup vs. Trinity Christian this Friday night. Even though this year has looked uncommon, it has still been an awesome school year! #CDSUnCommon #GoCavs
