Merry Christmas from the Griffin's

Chad Griffin
As we turn on the news, pick up the paper, and see the world around us, one might ask what is going on? What compassion? What sense of love?  I see an Upper School filling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Our Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy collecting toys for Safe Shelter. There is a tremendous amount of love, joy, and giving going on around us. One of my favorite Christmas traditions growing up was when my mother and I went to the local mall in Gastonia, NC, and there was a Angel Tree. The young children getting help from the tree were going to go without a Christmas, and they had their name, age, and a sign noting boy or girl hanging on it. My mom always taught me it was better to give than receive. We would select children off the tree, mostly they were boys the same age as me, and then we would go shop for them like I was shopping for myself. That was the most fun I ever had at Christmas. I would always imagine what the boys were thinking when they opened up the present Christmas morning, and I prayed that they liked it.  Now as a parent of a 9 and 10 year old, I pray that I can have the same influence on them that my mom had on me. And I am grateful for a school and an administration that sees that all gifts come from God, and it is our duty to serve and give with loving and caring hearts. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
