The primary emphasis in college admission is the high school transcript. Students should choose courses in which they will be both challenged and successful. Students should also pay attention to aspects of continuity and sequence. Advisors, college counselors, and faculty are some of the members by whom students are guided academically at Calvary Day School.
Calvary Day School College Counselors seek to understand who students want to be, what they want to do, and why they are driven or motivated towards a particular college, major or calling.
Through special programming, a strategic testing plan, individual academic advisement, essay writing workshops, and the utilization of SCOIR, Calvary Day School students are prepared to begin the application experience at the end of 11th grade. While we have a comprehensive college counseling plan we value students as individuals and find the result of enthusiastic and engaging college counseling leads to students feeling confident, driven and eager to navigate the application experience.
College Counseling Resources
Calvary Day School offers the PSAT 8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, ACT PLAN, Pre-ACT, school day ACT and school day SAT at the appropriate points in a student’s academic journey. Students are encouraged to take the Pre-ACT and the PSAT in grades 9, 10 and 11 in preparation for the ACT and SAT. Juniors are encouraged to take a minimum of one ACT and one SAT by the end of junior year. Calvary college counselors, advisors, and applicable faculty keep students and parents informed of tests and registration procedures.
All juniors attend an essay writing workshop spring of their junior year. College counselors are available to facilitate brainstorming sessions as well as review and provide feedback throughout the application experience.
Calvary college counselors work with students to plan college visits, note information regarding their visits and appropriately follow up with admission representatives. In addition, Calvary’s experienced college counselors maintain contact with college representatives throughout the year, regularly visit college campuses and routinely represent Calvary at professional conferences. Each year, college representatives from all over the country are welcome to visit CDS to meet with students.
Students are encouraged to participate in school and community activities as they explore their academic interests and utilize their time and talents to serve others. Academic, athletic and interest clubs are available for membership as well as support for the expansion of new clubs and activities.
We believe that God has a plan for each student and has blessed each and every one of them with unique gifts and talents. We are confident there is a post-secondary fit for each student; therefore, it is of the utmost importance to provide individualized attention to students as they navigate the college application experience. Ultimately, knowing that if they have taken advantage of the opportunities presented to them and trusted in Him their academic journey will continue well beyond the walls of Calvary Day School.

In-person visits take place in the Building H (High School Building). It is easiest to enter campus at the Waters Avenue entrance. Upon entering, take an immediate right (before the gate) and park in an available parking spot. You can enter the building with the Calvary Day School logo in the window and they will direct you to the College and Student Center.
