Michael Wayne Murphy, Jr. c/o 1999

Gordon Hunter

Mr. Wayne Murphy, came to Calvary his junior year and graduated in 1999. He was captain of the men’s golf team and thoroughly enjoyed his Cavalier experience. After graduation, he enrolled at Georgia Southern University, following a family legacy of Eagles.

After completing his Bachelors of Business Administration in Management in 2004, Mr. Murphy spent a few years working at The Club at Savannah Harbor and The First Tee Savannah. In 2011, Wayne began a career working with numbers for SunTrust Bank. He settled into a successful banking career at Queensborough National Bank and Trust in 2013 and is now a branch manager at Queensborough in Savannah. He completed the Georgia Bankers Association Georgia Banking School at the University of Georgia in 2017.

Volunteering is a passion of Wayne’s. He enjoys giving back to the Savannah community and has been heavily involved in a number of nonprofit organizations. Currently he is working with the Ronald McDonald House Red Shoe Society, Historic Savannah Foundation's 13th Colony Society, the Savannah Quarterback Club, and the Georgia Southern University College of Business Young Alumni Advisory Board.

Wayne attributes his success to Calvary for preparing him for the difficulties of college classes and for helping him grow socially and emotionally. He references Mr. McGee, his Cavalier Bible teacher, as one of his biggest influences because he taught him about resilience and the importance of trusting God through life’s difficult times. When asked what advice he would give to current and future high school students, Wayne said, “Remember that you are owed nothing. Go out and earn everything you want to work towards and do not be afraid because the best is yet to come.”

As of August 30th, Wayne is happily engaged to Katie Goodman. As he told us, “she is one in a billion.”

Wayne is one of Calvary’s 3,026 alumni, and we are very proud to call him a Cavalier!
