This framework provides our students with many needed skills as they proceed to the next chapter in their academic lives (The Writing Lab, 2016). Students are also given detailed training on the use of GALILEO. GALILEO (GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online) provides Georgia citizens access to authoritative, subscription-only information that is not available via other websites. GALILEO databases provide extensive access to peer-reviewed journal and magazine articles, newspaper stories, encyclopedia entries, and e-books. Calvary students who attend in-state colleges will be a step ahead as most Georgia universities utilize GALILEO for all manners of academic research, including scientific research, research in the humanities, as well as artistic research.

Research writing skills are imperative not only in English classes but all core subject areas as well. Students must know how to locate and use reliable sources as well as write a well-prepared research paper with proper grammar, solid arguments, and correct citation usage. Due to their individual hard work and a dedicated teaching staff, our students receive excellent training and are prepared to tackle collegiate writing.

We love to hear from our graduates. They encourage us daily by sharing stories of how Calvary has positively impacted their college experience. One of the common threads that they reference is their appreciation for the hard work they were required to do in research writing, with comments such as, ‘College research is easy!’; ‘I am so far ahead of my peers from other schools.’ My daughter is a sophomore at the University of Georgia and also reiterated those statements. She was shocked at how many college students do not know how to write research papers and praised our English department for preparing her so well for her collegiate pursuits. This pushes us to continue the pursuit of excellence at Calvary Day School. We hope to instill in each student a love of learning and a desire to achieve and succeed in all areas of their lives. We will continue the pursuit of excellence in research and writing across the curriculum to best prepare our students for their current academic experience and future studies.
