From Berkeley to Brown...Calvary prepares Seniors for the Collegiate Process

Stacey Mell - Director of Guidance
As your family visits schools, especially if your student is just entering high school, now is the time to set goals. Ask your student, “Where would you like to attend college?” “What areas of study are interesting to you?” Students can open up a Gafutures account that will allow them access to a plethora of information about Georgia colleges. My Options is a free site on College Board’s website that allows for student access to colleges all over the country.

Tier 1 colleges and universities tend to look holistically at a student’s application and want to see a transcript that is full of rigorous courses that the student has performed well in. On the application they want to see lots of community and school involvement and part-time employment.

A way to gain valuable information from a knowledgeable source is by meeting with the college representatives that come and visit Calvary Day School. Currently, Calvary has approximately twenty schools scheduled to visit between now and mid-October. Students need to obtain a pass from Mrs. Mell, and they will have the opportunity to receive information about that school, ask questions, and be placed on the mailing list to receive future mailouts. Planning ahead is a key component to being knowledgeable in the process of college selection.
