My Story

Martha VanVleck
First and foremost, I am a child of God, living a life of freedom and promise. I am blessed beyond measure with family, friends, and an abundant, full life.

I am a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, and again, I am blessed beyond measure. A wonderful marriage of 34 years has given me two amazing children who we raised over the years, spending countless hours at Calvary. Some years ago, our family grew by one when God answered a mother’s prayers and blessed us with our beautiful daughter-in-law. Later, we grew by two more with the births of each of our grandchildren.

Last and certainly not least, I am a staff member on the campus of Calvary Baptist and Calvary Day School. I am blessed beyond measure with opportunities to serve other staff and church members along with all of the students and parents that complete the Calvary “family.”

Before we started the new school year, I was moved by a special time of praise, worship, and communion with staff from across our campus. How wonderful was the sound of the words to “Amazing Grace” being sung by so many with hope in their hearts for a Christ-centered year. Recently, I walked down a wing of our Early Learning Center and stopped to look through a window at my grandson. As I stood there, it hit me that the wonderful lady caring for him had also taken care of my son many years ago, right here on this campus.

On the first day of the new school year, I watched my precious granddaughter start Pre-Kindergarten, yes...right here at Calvary Day School. The same school that her daddy and Aunt K.K. graduated from. My granddaughter will attend and participate in programs in the sanctuary where her mommy and daddy along with their families attended church for many years.

So, as I re-read 2 Corinthians 3: 2-3 and reflect on the words that I have written, I realize that in just a few paragraphs, I have somewhat summed up thirty plus years of my life. Years that are all sewn together by the common thread of Calvary. With a full heart I write my testimony to the “Spirit of the Living God”....and if I may say once more, I am blessed beyond measure.

That’s my Calvary story - what’s yours?
