Welcome Back

2019-2020 - This is so difficult for me to grasp--I am beginning my fourth year at Calvary. The time has flown by, and I’m so blessed by the relationships I have developed over these years. It is evident that God is moving in this place and through the people of Calvary.

My story...our theme for this year. God has a definite plan for each one of us. We are uniquely created to fulfill a story. The hard part is allowing the ultimate Author to keep the pen. Most of us are so guilty of trying to steal the pen from God. We want to change the characters, move the plot in another direction, thinking there will be a happily ever after ending. Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper, and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your path.”  Both of these scriptures clearly outline how God is constantly writing our story, but it is up to us to surrender the pen to Him. Isn’t it interesting, though, how we don’t simply find peace in that truth. We continue to steal the pen to be in control.

My key verse is Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God.” This verse is a constant reminder that I need to simply be still and allow God to write the pages of my life.  He so dearly loves me, so why wouldn’t He have a happily ever after ending especially for me?

As we begin this school year, I challenge each student, each parent, and each staff member to allow God to be the author of your story, and most importantly, find peace and joy in the knowledge that He is in control of the pen. Each student, parent, and staff member is a part of the Calvary story as well. We are a part of a wonderful journey, and what a blessing it is to travel this road together.

My prayer is that each of you does find peace in the story being written for you--that each of you will rest in the confidence that God is in control when there are plot twists, character foils, and villains who enter our lives. I pray that you recognize your individual gifts and talents to be the superhero of your story--a champion for Christ.

Susan Tigert is the High School Principal at Calvary Day School. She comes from a family of educators and fought going into that field. However, after a year out of college, she realized God’s calling for her life. The scripture that grounds her on a daily basis is Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God.”
