No Excuses

Jackie Hamilton

As a teacher, athletic director, parent and a coach, it benefits me in all these areas to reduce or eliminate excuses. Recently I heard a quote by Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney who said, “ I will do what I can, while I can, so that when I cannot, I will not wish that I would have done what I could have.” In other words, take advantage of your opportunities now, so that you won’t have regrets later. One opportunity that all Calvary student-athletes will have next Wednesday, April 17th is to get a physical for the upcoming school year. As Middle School Athletic Director, every year at the beginning of each sport season, there are players that don’t have their physical and have to miss practice until they get them. Getting the physical done at school insures that the student-athlete will be ready to go the first day of practice. The physical here at school is also offered at a much lower price than anywhere else you go. Parents, if your son or daughter plans on playing a sport next year, please go ahead and get this done.

There is also no excuse for students not improving their skill or knowledge in a number of areas this summer. There is a camp for pretty much everything these days. Students should be encouraged to refine their skill or even try something totally new at one of these camps. Whether it be academically, such as an SAT course or a STEM camp; or athletically such as a basketball, football, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, or cheerleading camp; or spiritually such as a church camp, students should seek to improve. The summer is a time for some relaxation but also a great chance to improve in a number of areas. Find the time to improve. No excuses.

Jackie Hamilton is a 1980 graduate of Calvary Day School and the Middle School Athletic Director. He lives his life by John 14:1-3, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” Hamilton enjoys being with his family and friends, sports, the competition that comes with playing the game, and the successes of his students.
