Stressed?

Stephanie VanVleck M.Ed.
But in this constant state of hyperactivity, how do we balance the stress and bring a sense of balance to our lives?

  1. Simply Breathe. As simple as it sounds, we breathe all the time, but is it intentional? Do you focus on the deep inhales and slow exhales and allow yourself to relax?
  2. Get a hug from your child(ren). At the end of a long day, and some days seem longer than others, hug your child. It helps you refocus on what is truly important. I often find when either of my two small children want to hug me or fall asleep on me, it makes everything seem right.
  3. Find joy in little moments. Celebrate the small successes. Remember that you don’t have to accomplish everything at the same time. Appreciating the process can help you find this joy.
  4. Remember that you can’t do everything by yourself. Use the support system around you. Who can you call for a few minutes of peace or fellowship? The Calvary family bond is unique, you can always count on someone to be there in your time of need.

But most importantly, know God is in control of every situation. Hebrews 6:19 says “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” God is our anchor holding us firm even in the most difficult and hectic situation. When we feel like we can’t, when we fear, when we’re weak, God provides the stability and support we so desperately need. Just remember to breathe, embrace hugs from your children, find joy, and trust God to help you through the things you cannot do by yourself.
