Eternal AND Global Impact

Written By: Dr. James Taylor
Spiritual Emphasis Week (SEW) is a remarkably special week set aside each year for our Middle School and High School students to be challenged spiritually toward personal growth. I am energized every year by great student stories letting me know how their lives were changed. One particular student’s life that was changed during SEW is Senior Marmda Sun. Marmda came to Calvary as a foreign exchange student from China four years ago. Marmda is an amazingly talented artist from a small island off the coast of China. Two years ago during SEW, Marmda rededicated his life to Christ. His eternity and his outlook on life changed dramatically!

Marmda now understands the joy and peace from having a daily relationship with God. He loves attending Calvary Baptist Temple and youth group every week where he has made great friends. While Marmda plans on remaining in the United States for his college education, he does plan on returning to China at some point. Imagine the spiritual impact Marmda will have when he returns to his home country. China is a communist country where religious freedom is virtually non-existent. SEW impacted his eternity and will impact the world through his personal witness.

Thanks to our PTO who handles all expenses for SEW. Keep our speaker Chad Poe and our worship band Lion’s Den in your prayers as we prepare for this life changing event.

James Taylor is the Head of School at Calvary Day School. Taylor’s greatest joy is to see Christ’s truth take root in the lives of young people. He is amazed to watch their worldviews become deliberately and intricately intertwined with the creator of the universe. Dr. Taylor challenges his students to live deliberately in the pattern of 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”
