Welcome Our New Head of School

Throughout my time in education, I have enjoyed watching students grow and develop under the mentorship of those who are guided by their faith. Being raised in Savannah, I am aware of the educational options families have and the choices available for families to invest. Calvary Day School will continue to be the wisest choice for families seeking a Christ-centered, college preparatory education in the Coastal Empire. I am eager to help accelerate a high level of excellence in all areas of the school and continue to build upon the strong foundation constructed by those who love CDS. My family and I have fervently sought the Lord through prayer and conversation to know that we are confident that accepting this position is in obedience to the Lord and His call.

The spirit of every school is its student body. I look forward to witnessing Calvary students live out their faith through their caring hearts, curious minds, and faithful determination while sharing moments with them on the field and court, watching them perform on stage, and observing their engagement in class discussions. I am confident we will continue to develop students who serve as leaders for the next generation.

A leader is only as strong as those by whom he is surrounded, so I look forward to working with the remarkable teachers and highly talented administrators that lead Calvary Day School. I am thrilled to see our future at Calvary and the impact the school community will have on my family. I know God's hand will continue to be in everything we do, and we feel blessed to be able to call Calvary Day School our new home.

In Him,
Dr. Hunter Chadwick

Search Updates

December Update

A little over a month ago, the Lord gave our school a new task to find its next leader. Our detailed and thorough process involved meetings in person with the search committee and administration, video and phone interviews, multiple visits to our campus, and countless hours of prayer. The Calvary Day School Board of Advisors, Calvary Baptist Temple Elders, and Senior Pastor Kenny Grant are pleased to announce Dr. Hunter Chadwick as our new Head of School. After reviewing and vetting a number of candidates, the Lord led the search committee to meet Dr. Chadwick only days into our process. Our committee was unanimous in voting for Dr. Chadwick as the next leader for Calvary Day School.

Dr. Chadwick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from being a teacher, a coach, and an administrator. Most importantly, he displays an authentic love for Jesus Christ. Our committee was focused on finding a Christ-centered educator who can share the love of Christ while striving to provide the best education and experience for our current and future Calvary family. We searched for a leader who will support and enhance our faculty with their professional growth, understand and appreciate the perspective of our parents and students, and build and maintain relationships within our CDS and surrounding communities. We feel that the Lord placed Dr. Chadwick in our path at the right time to meet and exceed our current and future needs and goals.

Dr. Chadwick is currently the Head of Upper School at King’s Ridge Christian School in Alpharetta, GA where he has served since 2013. Dr. Chadwick served as Athletic Director of Fellowship Christian School from 2010-2013. Before this, Dr. Chadwick served as Curriculum Coordinator at Savannah Christian Preparatory School for 5 years after also teaching at Bradwell Institute and Benedictine Military School early in his career. He is a Savannah native and understands the culture of the ever-changing and competitive climate of our city’s educational system. He brings a forward thinking and relational approach to our campus to continue the upward trajectory of great success established by our current administration. To quote one of Dr. Chadwick’s references, “I’ve worked with Hunter for many years, and he is one of the hardest working and most authentic leaders. He has an ability to connect with students, parents, and staff and is focused on relationship building while being a person of conviction. He’s not ashamed to share his faith and brings a passion to his calling everyday.”

Dr. Chadwick holds a B.A. in International Studies with a minor in Spanish from Georgia Southern University, an M.Ed. in Special Education-Behaviors Disorders from Georgia Southern University, an Ed.S. in Curriculum/Instruction Management and Administration from Nova Southeastern University, and an Ed.D. in Curriculum Studies from Georgia Southern University.

Dr. Chadwick and his wife Erin have been married for 19 years, and they have seven children with four of them currently living at home. Braxton is a senior and will be attending college next year. The three younger boys will be attending Calvary next year: Cade will be a rising 9th grader; Talyn will be a rising 8th grader; and Avyn will be a rising 1st grader. Hunter, Erin, and the boys are all looking forward to joining the Calvary community this summer.

Dr. Chadwick will be starting as Head of School on July 1, 2020. God has truly orchestrated the search process through much prayer and fasting from a dedicated school and church body. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” He led our committee to blend our thoughts to the one common goal of finding the next great leader for our school, and we are grateful for the Lord’s provision. Please be praying for Dr. Chadwick, Erin, and their boys as they follow God’s calling to Savannah.

November Update

The recent announcement by Head of School Dr. James Taylor, who has accepted a call from the Lord to serve at Hebron Christian, weighed heavily on our hearts last week. The Board of Advisors, CDS Administration, and Calvary Baptist Temple leadership met, and we want to make sure that you are informed and encouraged about our search for the next leader of this great ministry. We know that God is in control, and we are already seeing Him work to show His glory through the leadership, staff, and the search process.

Calvary is resting securely in God’s loving arms. Just as he provided for us 15 years ago with Dr. Taylor, He will provide for us again. He already has it worked out for our good, and we all must unite in prayer, hope, and anticipation for what He is going to do. We are thrilled to see what He has in mind, which will be so much greater than we could ever imagine.

How does the search process work? A search committee has been chosen from the existing Board members and staff. This committee will interview and vet candidates for the position. Qualified candidates will then be presented to an already selected group of seven, which includes Senior Pastor Kenny Grant, three selected Elders of the Church, and three Board members. They will work together until they reach the final interview and approval process, then that candidate will be presented to the Church body for affirmation. This process is outlined in our operating by-laws and will be followed in accordance.

How can you be a part of this process? Pray, pray, and pray for Calvary Day School. The Board of Advisors, Administration, and Church leadership covet your prayers as we are on our knees with you, praying for God’s will for our ministry. Here, you will find a prayer guide to use as a framework for your time with the Lord. We ask that our Calvary Family pray specifically and without ceasing for Calvary Day School, our future Head of School, Dr. Taylor and his family, and the leaders who are engaged in the search process.

God is in control, and we want to assure you that we as a School and Church body are united and are standing firm on His promises. He has blessed, is blessing us now, and will continue to bless this ministry as we always seek to keep Him first. We covet your prayers and your support throughout this process. If you have any qualified candidates that you would recommend for the position, please send resumes to badvisors@calvarydayschool.com.

CALL TO PRAYER

The Calvary Board of Advisors, Elders of Calvary Baptist Temple, and the Calvary Day School Administration team would like to invite you to join us in a prayer campaign for our new Head of School, Dr. Hunter Chadwick. We know that prayer is required because 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray continually.” As we seek God’s will together, we need your help in covering the transition in prayer as we introduce His next great leader for Calvary Day School.

We have chosen four areas to focus our prayers on during the transition process. We encourage you to spend time each week in prayer for these items. This list is only a guide, and we hope it reminds you to lay all of your burdens at the Lord’s feet to experience His grace.

OUR SCHOOL FAMILY

Pray for a sense of unity and love among all members of the school. Pray that we will be like-minded with an extra measure of patience. Pray that we will be committed to being steadfast in prayer for God to bless this transition. (John 13:34, Romans 15:5-6, Ephesians 4:2-6, Romans 12:12)

OUR NEW HEAD OF SCHOOL

Pray for our new Head of School and family to have absolute certainty in the call to Calvary Day School. Pray for peace that passes all understanding. Pray for the school that Dr. Chadwick will be leaving. Continue to pray for our current Head of School, James Taylor, and his future calling. (Philippians 4:6-7)

ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS

Pray that our administration, faculty, and staff as they continue to carry out their duties. Pray that God will quiet any fears and give peace about the transition process and that all will be open and willing to accept change. Pray that God will place a hedge of protection around our school. Pray that each student will continue to know that God is in control. (Psalms 91:1 Corinthians 15:58)

LEADERSHIP

Pray for clarity, discernment, wisdom, and strength for Kenny Grant, Board of Advisors, and church leadership during the transition process. Pray that God will lead by His timing. (Jeremiah 33:3, Proverbs 2:1-6, I Corinthians 1:10)
