Spring is the busiest time of year in schools. Students are studying for exams, collaborating on final projects, hunting for Easter eggs, and participating in playoff sports. Spring is also packed with school performances and concerts. Teachers spend countless hours practicing songs and dance steps to ensure our students are ready for performance day.
Our latest performance was on Thursday, April 18th at 9 a.m. in Wilder Chapel: The Lower School Spring Concert. This performance was led by Ronda Evens, and all teachers from first, second, and third grades.
As with all that we do here at Calvary our main goal for this event was to glorify God, and our first, second, and third graders sure did that. All 99 of them were dressed in beautiful spring colors and had a huge smile on their faces. They sang and danced their hearts out, which had a lot of their parents and grandparents in tears. The song list included “O Mister Sun,””Springtime Sunshine,”” Do-Re-Mi,” We Believe,” and “Special in God’s Eyes.”
While all of the songs were wonderful, I think most of the crowd enjoyed “Sunday School Sing-a-Long” the best. It incorporated many of the “old school” Sunday School songs from previous generations--Mrs. Evens even asked the crowd to join in and sing if they knew the words. I heard one grandparent say, “That brought back a lot of good childhood memories for me because I sang all of those songs when I was 8 years old.”
Thanks to all of the students who participated, teachers who led it, and family members for attending! And now we turn our focus to Spring Fling…..only a few days away!!!
Joseph Almeida is the Assistant Principal of the Lower School at Calvary. Mr. Almeida has experience as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Tennessee, Brazil, South Carolina, and now Georgia. He went to Brazil on a mission trip, and God kept him there for seven years where he served as a teacher and later as the Elementary Principal at School of the Nations in Brasilia, Brazil. What amazing experience he will be able to share with our youngest Cavaliers! John 15:12 is a verse he tries to live by every day: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
