A Well Rounded Christian Education Is A Top Priority at Calvary Day School In Savannah

Over 130 new students have joined the school ministry alone! The excitement can be felt throughout campus as these new faces integrate with an established core of dedicated Cavaliers. Reflecting on the beginning of the year, I constantly think about our central verse and how it will impact our campus this years. Luke 2:52: “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Calvary desires a well-rounded experience for all students, whether they are in the Early Learning Center or close to walking across the high school graduation stage. There are so many ways that students can grow academically – daily study time; reading 20 minutes or more a day; participate in academic clubs; such as the newly formed high school Spanish Club; or take an Advanced Placement course. Students can also blossom physically through participating in school athletics, dedicated physical education courses, or taking specialized activity courses such as weightlifting or Presidential Physical Fitness. Calvary provides many avenues for interpersonal growth. Being involved in clubs, organizations, and teams, as well as class discussion and group work provide growth opportunities. Last, but certainly not least, we desire for every student to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Small group studies, challenging Bible curriculum, chapel programs, and daily devotions are just a few of the many ways we seek to provide our students with Christian growth opportunities. Our prayer is that every student, from the youngest to the oldest, is growing daily in all four areas: in wisdom (academics), stature (physical growth), in favor with man (friendships and relationships), and in favor with God (a maturing daily walk with God.)

A little more about Tonja Brunn...

Tonja Brunn holds a B.S. degree in health and physical education from Armstrong State College, an M.Ed. in counselor education from Georgia Southern University, and an M.Ed. in administration and supervision from the University of Georgia. She attends Calvary Baptist Temple, and her favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Brunn most enjoys her job because of the family atmosphere and the direct impact on students that she witnesses every day. She counts it a true joy to see the physical, academic, social, and spiritual growth of the students at Calvary Day School. Brunn enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exercising, enjoying the beach, and reading.
